Open Source Alternatives to Commercial Programs Part 1
Hey All,
Sorry that it’s taken so long to post but i have to do my school work. Anyway, I was thinking and realized that there are a lot of real neat Programs out there that you may want that cost a lot of money and for this reason can’t afford. There are probably also programs that you are using that are not as effective as some of the free alternatives that are out there. So my intention is to write a series of posts that explore some of the free alternatives out there and what exactly they do. Hopefully it will all be an informative and interesting experience.

The Firefox Browser on first start up
The first program that I’d like to cover is Firefox. Firefox is a free alternative to Internet Explorer that is loaded with expanded functionality. Out of the box Firefox appears slightly similar to IE. it has an address bar and a search bar. It can order bookmarks and has tabbed browsing (though I feel that the tabs are better implemented in Firefox than IE). however Firefox has a large array of different Add-ons that further expand the functionality in almost any way (I will be posting on some of the various ones that i have used at a future time). Firefox also has the capability of being themed in multiple ways to fit into the look that you want for it to have.
On a technical side Firefox is better than IE because it supports the modern CSS styles and displays them correctly as apposed to IE which sometimes breaks due to it’s differing standards. Firefox also is more secure then IE and is open source (which in my opinion is always a plus). Best of all if you have Firefox (or any “good” modern browser for that matter) installed my website actually displays correctly with rounded corners.
Well, that’s all that i have to say on Firefox now. If people want me to i might be able to do a “feature tour” of Firefox. Anyway, I hope that what i said has been helpful. if you want to download the browser to check it out you can do so Here.
God Bless,
Josh
